Cleansing Water: A Makeup Artist’s best kept secret, and a Dermatologist’s love

Cleansing Water: A Makeup Artist’s best kept secret, and a Dermatologist’s love

lancomeBetween cleansing oils, foaming cleansers, and wipes, there are several ways to clean your face. One of the newest contenders are cleansing waters. When I first heard of cleansing water, I thought it had to be a body cleansing product.  Cleansing water is an easy, gentle makeup remover preferred by makeup artists and dermatologists.

It is a multi-tasking skincare product: oil infused water formulated with tiny micelles that absorb impurities from your skin. (Think of it like how detergent breaks down oil, but it is not a detergent). Dirt and oil gets trapped in the micelles, and can be easily wiped away. Cleansing water acts as a makeup remover, cleanser and toner. After one use, my skin feels refreshed, which is a skincare bonus during the humid summer months.

Advantages:

cleansing waters are detergent free and non-foaming, so there is less risk of skin irritation.

Cleansing water is a gentler approach to cleansing (as opposed to wipes, soaps etc), making it suitable for sensitive skin.

Cleansing water is a great alternative to cleansing wipes.

Cleansing water removes waterproof, long lasting face, eye, and lip makeup

Poignant info: after wiping with cleansing water, you don’t need to wash your face afterward, making this a winner for sensitive skin or anyone who needs a quick, no sink required cleanse.

Disadvantages:

You may use 1-3 pads depending on the amount of makeup you are removing.

If you are a clean skin freak like me, you will feel the urge to follow up with a deep cleanse.

Despite not washing it off, I strongly recommend following your cleansing water with a proper skincare routine which will add exfoliation and deep cleanse. (Consider it a pre-cleanser for those who use heavy makeup and thick moisturizers)

How to Use it: To use, I simply squirt a few drops onto a cleansing pad and wipe (you may need 2-3 pads depending on the amount of makeup you are removing).

Dr. G Makeup Artist Recommends these non-oily cleansing waters:

Caudalie Paris Cleansing Water, which is sulfate, paraben, and phthalate free.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Solution Micellaire

MAC Mineralized Charge Water Cleanser

Lancome EAU Fraiche Douceur Micellar Cleansing Water Face, Eyes, Lips

Whatever your preference, make cleaning your face a habit. Your skin will thank you in years to come!

🙂
