Saturday Skincare: GLAMGLOW SuperMud Clearing Treatment Review

Saturday Skincare: GLAMGLOW SuperMud Clearing Treatment Review

Hey Beauties,

Here is a guest blog review of GLAMGLOW Supermud Clearing Treatment by Ruth Arumala, one of our skincare enthusiasts.

Over the years, I have played this game with my skin. From meticulously caring for my skin to falling asleep in my makeup, I oscillated from one extreme to another. The idea of acne and hyperpigmentation being a chronic disease recently sank in. I have to treat my skin like I would advise a diabetic or hypertensive patient: you don’t stop taking metformin because your fingerprick was good two days ago.
So here we are: Afro-Caribbean woman in her 20s with teenage acne-prone oily skin and diffuse hyperpigmented post acne scars. What are we going to do about it?  Finally create a good sustainable regimen and stick to it! The goal? Clear skin by med school graduation: May 2014.

Regimen:
-AM cleanse with Neutrogena Acne wash (salicylic acid treatment); apply Finacea 15% gel; Neutrogena Liquid Silk spf 30;
-PM cleanse; apply tretinoin 0.04%
-Treatment masks 3x a week

The 1st product: Glam Glow Supermud masque. I 1st spotted this treatment when I was roaming through duty free shopping stuck in Heathrow airport for 5 hours. I was appalled by the price (think it was close to 40 pounds). I was determined to find this product online for a fraction of the cost. Alas, I did! Amazon baby! I ordered this product for half the price at $39.99 (exact product costs $69 at Sephora).

I opened the fedex package to reveal this cutesy bright white hexagonal box. Inside the box was this little 1.2oz jar of what I hoped would be magic in a jar. I unscrewed the top and I saw this slate colored filling of uneven texture. I think I even saw leaves and all sorts in this concoction. This was evidence to me that “real stuff” was harmed in the making of my product.

I smeared this product over my face and proceeded to let it work. I felt the sensation of tingling and stinging evidence to me that something was happening. I peeked at the mirror and stared at that ghoulish look we all scare our neighbor’s cat with when we sport masks. I noticed that my T zone was much darker than the rest of my face. This mask had sucked up the oil that so easily annoys me. 20 minutes later I rinsed this mask off to reveal softer smoother skin instantly!

It takes a lot to win my approval! So I need several more dances with this masque to make a judgment call. Several days later, my skin started peeling! Hold up? Is this a chemical peel? I mulled over the ingredients again. Needless to say, Acnecidic-6 is one of the major ingredients.

Acnecidic-6 is a blend of alpha and beta hydroxy acids, which include glycolic and lactic acids. Ever heard of glucolic acid peels? Hello! Mild peels are a mainstay for the treatment of post-acne hyperpigmentation in Fitzpatrick type IV, V, VI skin (had to drop a little knowledge; just means darker skin). I was even more impressed by this product.

After the mild peeling (2 days) which I ameliorated by using Aveeno non-fragrance cream on my face and skin protection of course, a layer of newer smoother less pigmented epidermis was revealed. How excited was I? You have no idea!

So what do I think about the Glam Glow Supermud? I love it! I caution you to start this product when you do not have any huge life event coming up. Don’t show up to an interview or wedding looking like an alligator.

I am very grateful to one of my besties, Dr. G, for enabling me to share my journey with you guys. Lots of luck in your journey to flawless skin!
