2014 Lip Trends: Say Yes to Orange

2014 Lip Trends: Say Yes to Orange

Hey Beauties,

here are current lip trends from guest blogger and fellow makeup artist, Tammy Hargrove.  While the calendar says winter is officially over, we are not quite out of the woods yet. Now is a great time to gear up on trends so that when it finally does start to warm up, you’ll be a trend master.

Staying on trend is going to be fun this summer. Thee “it” color will be orange when it comes to lips. It’s popping up everywhere! Surprisingly enough, orange and corals are colors that complement many, if not just about all, complexions. Wearing coral or orange gives you a different option as opposed to red. It goes really well with some of the popular wardrobe colors such as mint green, orchid and other pastels. We will also discuss some other color options a little later…

Where To Buy & How to Wear

Orange and corals can be worn during the day as well as at night. During the day, you may opt for a lipgloss. It’ll give you just enough “pop” and color for daytime wear. Smashbox just introduced a new gloss for its Be Legendary line. The two coral shades are Gingerly (a warm coral-pink shade) and Melondrama (a shimmery coral). These retail for $20 and can be purchased at www.smashbox.com, Sephora or Ulta.

Another lipgloss line to try are those by Bobbi Brown. The “Nectar and Nude” collection is new for Spring 2014. The lip glosses come in limited edition and high (permanent collection) glosses. There aremany to choose from and you are sure to find a shade oshades that work well for you. This can be found on-line at www.bobbibrown.com or at your nearest department store such as Nordstrom, Macy’s or Saks.E6X432_l

Lastly, Inglot has a really neat orange high-shine gloss that is on sale for $8 (50% off) while supplies last. It’s called AMC lipgloss in #545. Go to www.inglot.com to check it out under the “Special Offers” section. It’s multi-dimensional mood gloss that conforms to your complexion. I find it to be pretty neat if you want something that is just a little bit different.

If you are looking for something bolder with a little more staying power, opt for a lipstick. There are quite a few beauties that will complement your complexion. One of my fave orange family lipsticks is MAC’s Lady Danger. It’s a matte coral and (in my mind) is the sister of MAC’s Ruby Woo (a bold, matte red). In the Bobbi Brown Nectar and Nude collection, I would suggest trying the pot rouge by the name of Hibiscus. It’s a “multi-tasker” that serves as a lip color and blush. For $26, that’s two products in one! While these will work on just about everyone, I did want to mention that olive and brown complexions will also do very well with orange and coral shades that have some gold in them. These are usually frost shades. MAC has two for you to check out: CB 96 and Meltdown. E80E31_l

Remember that while orange and coral shades are in this season; there are othershades that are going to just as beautiful. Pinks, fuchsias and purples are beautiful too. Bold is in! Treat yourself to some new lipstick or lipgloss. It’s an easy way to update your makeup “wardrobe.” Have fun and Happy Spring!

Tammy
