Dr. P’s DIY (Do It Yourself) Lipstick

Dr. P’s DIY (Do It Yourself) Lipstick

Have you ever had a bad reaction from wearing lipstick? Are you interested in using natural products? If so, this post is for you…
Many companies have started manufacturing lipstick using organic or vegan ingredients. Some of these include but are not limited to butters of shea, cocoa, mango, beeswax, soy wax, olive oil, vegetable glycerin, beet root, or lanolin. Organic lipstick can be pricey, so why not make it yourself? That’s what my colleague, Dr. P, thought to herself as she pondered ways to save money on organic lipstick costs. Using ingredients purchased at a natural health store, Dr. P created an organic moisturizing lippie.

Here is what Dr P had to say about her DIY (Do It Yourself) lipstick
1. What are the key ingredients?  Key ingredients for the lipstick are shea butter and essential oil. Shea is such a great moisturizer and has many healing properties. It will help keep lips from chapping and maintain moisture throughout the day. You can use an array of essential oils, depending  on the organic purpose of the oil itself (i.e. moisturizing, etc)

2. What type of lipstick is this?  It’s a paraben free, sulfates free lippie, so essentially, it grows from a tree to lipstick. One advantage to using this lipstick is there are no concerns of lead or other harmful agents (bismuth, talc, or gluten) in the ingredients.

3. What is the shelf life of this lipstick? Just as some commercial lipsticks, the shelf life of this DIY lippie is 1 year. Also, as with many cosmetics,  if not properly stored or left out in the sun or extreme climates  over a period of time, the ingredients may set differently, thereby altering the consistency of the product.

4.  How can someone purchase a sample of this lipstick? Dr. P is currently working on a line  of lispticks which will be available for sample sale in summer 2013, so be on the look out! In the mean time, you can check out her blog, LoveBlissnNaturalness on facebook. http://www.facebook.com/LoveBlissnNaturalness
After trying Dr. P’s DIY lipstick, I can’t wait to score some lippies at her upcoming sample sale. These lippies are made from 100% natural ingredients. I also really like the consistency of the product because it feels like a balm: soothing. In addition, the lipstick stayed on my lips for about 12 hours, giving me a full day of purple pout.

Always remember, when using a lipstick for the first time, test a small amount on your lip prior to initial full application. 🙂
