Saturday Skincare: DIY Winter Facial Mask For Normal To Oily Skin

Hey Beauties,

I will be starting a new series called Saturday Skincare, where I feature ingredients and products beneficial to treating and maintaining certain skin conditions. If you have a condition or concern that you would like featured as part of this series, email info@makeupbydrg.com.

To start off the Saturday Skincare series, here is a guest post from blogger, Elizabeth Parris at www.loveblissnnaturalness.com

Hey natural family. As the last bits of fall have drifted away and we are starting to settle into the dryer..colder weather, our skin begins to feel the change. One of the best ways to give your skin some much needed TLC, is a facial mask.

facialmaskingredientsNow I believe facial masks should be used year round, once a week when its warmer and 2-3 times a week once the air has less moisture in it. If you find yourself unable to hit the spa, your usual facial cleanser is not satisfying you or you are looking for a100% natural/budget friendly option you are in the right place. I recently made some changes to my routine facial mask and wanted to share with you all. Keep in mind I have oily skin, so this recipe is great for normal to oily skin.

What you will need (All ingredients can be found in a natural food store)

Calcium Bentonite (green) clay – 2 tb spoons

Organic honey –  1 tb spoons

Distilled water- 2 tb spoons

Organic apple cider vinegar- 3 tb spoons

Organic Coconut oil- ½ tb spoon

Tea tree essential oil-  5 drops

Lavender essential oil-  5 drops

Vitamin E oil- 5 drops

What to do:

  1. Put the 2 tb spoon of green clay in to a plastic bowl, pour in your water and mix with a plastic spoon. You must use plastic utensils.
  2. Add in the apple cider vinegar and stir, you mixture will fizzle up, just stir slowly.
  3. Add the other ingredients.

The mixture should come out to a smooth paste like substance. (Click the image below to  enlarge).

facialmask2Application:

1. Cleanse your face, neck and décolletage (  the area under your neck. optional, but higly recommended) with your usual cleanser and pat dry with a paper towel.

2. Take your mask mixture and apply it evenly to you face, neck and décolletage.

3. Once the first layer is done go back over it with the remaining solution.

4. Leave on for atleast 15mins or until the mask fully hardens.

5. Rinse clean with warm water, followed by a cool splash.

Post facial affects

Your skin is absolutely soft and supple. There is no drying, cracked face feeling after you rinse this away.  And its’ super simple and easy.  The best part is the benefits of the items used. Honey is a great humectant, increases circulation and moisture in skin. Coconut oil is packed with vitamins that are great for skin and it’s great for locking in moisture. Apple cider vinegar packs enough natural acid to remove all those dead skin cells and open up those pores. It also is great for adding in moisture and balancing the ph of the skin (in case you have issues with pimple.  Tea tree oil is great for cleansing and clarifying, it is a natural antifungal/bacterial. Lavender is great for smell to cover up the vinegar and is very relaxing. Vitamin E helps to repair the skin and battle those scars. Green Clay has long been used as a purifier for skin. It naturally removes toxins from your skin when hydrated.

If you have an allergy to coconut oil, you can use avocado, olive, almond or apricot oils as good substitutes.

Also if you have dry skin, instead of vinegar use oat meal or oat flour and water.

As Always
